In which a state representative in Mississippi proposes a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”

HOUSE BILL NO. 150

1 AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT FOR ALL OFFICIAL PURPOSES WITHIN THE 2 STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE BODY OF WATER LOCATED DIRECTLY SOUTH OF

3 HANCOCK, HARRISON AND JACKSON COUNTIES SHALL BE KNOWN AS THE “GULF

4 OF AMERICA”; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

6 SECTION 1. For all official purposes within the State of

7 Mississippi, the body of water that is located directly south of

8 Hancock, Harrison and Jackson Counties shall be known as the “Gulf

9 of America.”

10 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from

11 and after July 1, 2012.

This makes me proud to be a Mississippian!!
